Scramble Rules

1.  A scramble tournament will be either a two-person format (where possibly one team will have three players) or a four-person format (where some teams may have only three players).

2.  Selection of teams:

In the two-person format, players will be divided into two groups (A and B) according to their playing handicap.  In the four-person format, players will be divided into four groups (A, B, C, and D) according to their playing handicap.  (In either format, if a team has three players, they will be composed of an A, B, and C player).  "A" players will have the lowest playing handicap and will be the team captains.  The teams will be randomly selected by computer.

3.  In the two-person format, teams with two players must use at least six drives from each player (a team with three players must use at least four drives per person).  In the four-person format, teams with four players must use at least three drives from each player (teams with three players must use at least four drives from each player).

4.  When the chosen ball is on the fairway, fringe, or in the rough, players may move the ball one club length from that ball position (no closer to the hole).   However, it can not be moved to a different type of surface (e.g., if in the rough, it cannot be moved onto the fairway; if on the fringe, it cannot be moved onto the green).

5.  When the chosen ball is in a sand trap or other type of hazard, each shot must be played from that exact location, with the player who hit that ball playing first.  If in a sand trap, it is allowed to rake the sand trap between each player's shot.

6.  When the chosen ball is on the green, the position should be marked and each player should hit from that same spot.  If a putt is missed, but it is within one foot of the cup, it is permissible to tap that  putt in before other players have attempted the longer putt.  This is allowed to improve pace of play.  The other members of the team will still be allowed to attempt to make the longer putt for the better score.

7.  In the two-person format, if there is a three-person team, their team handicap will be adjusted downward to reflect the advantage of having more players than the other teams.

8.  In the four-person format, if a team has only 3 players, a person will hit twice on every shot for a particular hole, playing as the 4th player. Each player would play 6 times for the missing player during the 18 holes.  The A player should take two shots on the first hole, the B player should take two shots on the second hole, etc.

9.  The scorekeeper will put down the score on each hole, not whether it is plus or minus par.

10.  For the closest to the pin contests, if a player has two drives on the hole, only the first drive is eligible for closest to the pin.
